Bio

After 12 years of college and hospital training, followed by 25 years practicing diagnostic radiology, I was ready to retire from medicine and enjoy a new era in my life.  During my years as a physician and raising a family, my hobbies had included gardening and travel.   Much of my life was devoted to visual subjects.

With my new freedom, I knew I wanted to develop my artistic interests and talent.   It has been a wonderful challenge to learn about how a great painting is created.   All the knowledge that has been shared by teachers and associates has been thought provoking and instructive.

I have been fortunate to be able to attend workshops that were taught by some of the best living artists.   In the area of still life, I have enjoyed still life instruction with some great and generous instructors: Greg Kreutz, Robert Johnson, Hedi Moran, Joni Falk, Kathy Anderson, and Daniel Keys.   Still life, and especially florals, have been a great experience for learning to mix color and brushwork.

My other favorite subject is landscape and some talented artists have provided valuable tips for approaching plein air and studio landscape painting.  They have included Kenn Backhaus, Don Demers, Ned Mueller, Calvin Liang, Bill Davidson, and Ralph Oberg.   Landscape painting teaches the artist about how to create a great composition; where to place the item of most interest, what to move, and what to leave out.   It is a great celebration of our environment-be it city or country, homeland or foreign.

The art journey is a wonderful and exciting pathway filled with constant new experiences, knowledge, and development.  Oil painting is a great arena for self expression in which the artist can share their passion and appreciation of  the beauty of our world.  I hope that other people will enjoy the feelings and memories that my paintings are intended to evoke.
